Serial Rapist Sentenced To Over 250 Years In Jail In South Africa

India’s Cabinet Approves Death Penalty For Child Rapists
A South African man has been slammed with 25 life sentences for multiple crimes including rape and attempted murder.
It was gathered that the South Gauteng High Court sentenced 26-year-old Shadrack Xidada Chauke for 23 counts of rape and two of attempted murder.
The accused was also slammed with another 254 years for multiple counts of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery as well as kidnapping.
The country’s police confirmed this via a tweet on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
It is understood that Chauke committed the rapes between 2012 and 2014.
He broke into his victims’ houses and assaulted them, in some cases he attacked the victims’ partners and made them watch while he raped them.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said Chauke was spotted by a rape victim, three months after the incident in December 2015, eventually leading to his arrest.
Forensic tests then linked him to 17 other cases.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General De Lange congratulated not only the investigators, but also the victim who alerted the Police of the whereabouts of the suspect, as well as the witnesses who remained resolute and cooperated with the Police throughout the investigation, ensuring that Chauke’s reign of terror in and around Tembisa is brought to a complete halt.
“This sentence today will go a long way in encouraging our members to continue to prioritise the investigation of cases against women, children and other vulnerable groups. For the police, arresting a suspect is a success. But a conviction in court and multiple life sentences brings even more content,” said the Provincial Commissioner. (Read full statement here)
